Minister of state, labour and employment Festus Keyamo on Wednesday accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in the wake of Bola Tinubu’s emergence as APC presidential candidate, of not providing leadership for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2007.
Referring to Obasanjo as OBJ for short, Mr Keyamo tweeted that President Muhammadu Buhari showed he was a democrat by allowing his party’s presidential candidate emerge through a democratic means.
“OBJ are you watching? The kind of leadership OBJ failed to give @OfficialPDPNig in 2007 is what PMB just provided for the world to see: complete transparent process to pick a possible successor; no IMPOSITION; NO INTERFERENCE; who’s the democrat now? Congratulations @officialABAT,” the lawyer wrote.
Keyamo noted that APC northern governors, who insisted that the party’s presidential candidate should come from the south, are the heroes.
“The heroes of APC Convention are the Northern Govs who reflected the extreme complexity of Nigeria in their decision to move power down South; and PMB who proved to his disciples that he is EVERYTHING but what he has been so unfairly accused of. Congratulations again @officialABAT,” he added.
Tinubu scored 1,271 votes to clinch the APC presidential ticket on Wednesday at the party’s national convention in Abuja.
Former minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi beat Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to the second position.
Tinubu will now square up against Obasanjo’s former number two Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 elections.
