Ahmad Sulaiman, a famous Islamic scholar and supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, has regained his freedom, Katsina police have said.
The Kano-based cleric was freed alongside five other persons who were also abducted in Katsina State 12 days ago.
Sulaiman offered prayers publicly at campaigns grounds for Mr Buhari’s re-election.
He was kidnapped on his way to Kano after attending a religious function in Kebbi State.
Katsina police spoksman, Gambo Isa, confirmed their release to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
Qed.ng had earlier reported that the kidnappers of the president’s prayer-warrior had demanded a ransom of N300 million before his release.
But Mr Isa said no ransom was paid to the kidnappers before their release on Wednesday at about 4 a.m.
Isa said the victims communicated to their relatives and were later evacuated by the police and reunited with their families.
