A former Super Eagles player Christian Obodo who was kidnapped on Sunday evening by gunmen in a Delta community has been released, his longtime friend Big Sam has said.
Obodo was abducted by gunmen along Refinery Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State on Sunday night.
He had stopped to buy banana at about 5pm when he was abducted alongside a female friend.
“He has been released. He was released last night. I met him this morning. The town is becoming more unsafe. We are glad that he is back home,” Sam told reporters in Warri on Monday.
It was gathered that the footballer who retired recently from a Greece Football Club paid undisclosed ransom before he was freed around 10:30pm on Sunday.
This is the second time Obodo is being abducted in the country.
