A female student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Christiana Idowu has been killed.
President of the university’s student union government Ibrahim Adeyemi confirmed the killing to PUNCH on Thursday.
“The union can confirm that she was reportedly killed by her abductor,” he said.
Last month, Ms Idowu left her home in the Itaoluwo area of Ikorodu heading to the University of Lagos in Yaba where she was observing her industrial training before she was taken captive.
A source in the family told the newspaper on August 26 that her kidnappers asked for N3 million as ransom.
Following appeals by the family, the figure was reduced to N350,000.
The sum was paid via transfer however Idowu was not released.
A viral post on X written by @letter_to_jack claimed intelligence operatives uncovered the location of the abductor through the BVN and account details used in collecting ransom from the family.
The X user claimed the suspect had a mutual relationship with Idowu as they had both commented on each other’s Instagram posts.
“With all this information at hand, the operatives began to track down his cell phone activities and text messages. The cell phone tracking led them to his parent’s house, somewhere in Ikorodu,” the post read.
As of press time, the police in Lagos had yet to speak on the case.
The incident has led to calls on social media for justice for the murdered student through #justiceforchristianah.
