Former chairman of the Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN), Salisu Muazu, has regained his freedom days after he was abducted along the Kaduna-Jos Road.
Sani Muazu, another Kannywood filmmaker, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Sunday that his brother and two others have been released.
He said all the three victims were freed after paying the N10m ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
According to Sani, “We paid the ransom and we were misled on where we could reach our brothers and while searching, a truck driver, who saw them, led us to where we could find them.”
He described the situation and the experience of trying to secure their release as a gruelling one for both the captives and their relatives.
The Muazu brothers and two others were returning from a conference in Kaduna on Thursday when bandits stopped them on their way to Jos.
While Sani narrowly escaped, his brother and two other friends were held captive by the bandits who later demanded N10m ransom.
MOPPAN controls Kannywood, the Hausa language section of the Nigerian film industry, with headquarters in Kano.
