Nollywood actresses, Kiki Omeili and Meg Otanwa, are campaigning for the release of Leah Sharibu, one the 119 students of the Government Girls Secondary School, Dapchi, Yobe State, kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists in February.
Meg Otanwa began the campaign on Instagram calling on her colleagues in the industry to speak up for Leah after spending 200 days in captivity.
“With tears in my eyes, I’m begging and calling on all you strong women to please #SPEAKUP4LEAH She has been gone for so long,” she wrote
Kiki took on the campaign as she shared a picture of Leah wondering what has become of the little girl.
All the girls who were captured, alongside Leah, were subsequently released, except five who reportedly died in detention, but Sharibu was held back for refusing to denounce her Christain faith.
Leah recently spoke from the Boko Haram camp begging President Muhammadu Buhari come to her rescue.
“I am Leah Sharibu, the girl that was abducted in GGSS Dapchi. I am calling on the government and people of goodwill to intervene to get me out of my current situation,” she said.
She also appealed to members of the public that her family members be assisted.
“I also plead to the members of the public to help my mother, my father, my younger brother and relatives. Kindly help me out of my predicament. I am begging you to treat me with compassion, I am calling on the government, particularly, the president to pity me and get me out of this serious situation. Thank you.”
