Nigerian celebrities have joined others from around the world to criticise Swedish multinational clothing-retail company, Hennes & Mauritz (H&M), for using a black child to model a sweater with the words “coolest monkey in the jungle”.
The image first appeared over the weekend on the British version of the Swedish-based retailer’s website.
Upon noticing an advertisement with the photo, social media users erupted in outrage at H&M for what they deemed to be a racist and inconsiderate move.
By Monday morning, H&M had removed the ad from its website, saying it sincerely apologise for offending people with the image of a printed hooded top.
The removal of the image and apology, however, didn’t stop celebrities from berating the company.
Among those who knocked H&M are America basketball star LeBron James, rapper Diddy and Canadian singer The Weeknd.
Some of them altered the ad to show the boy wearing a crown.
In Nigeria, singers Kiss Daniel and Reekado Bank, and actress Angela Okorie also had something to say about the £7.99 hooded top.
Now i LIKE this.
Exactly how it should be
