There was confusion late on Sunday night over singer Kizz Daniel’s performance at the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Fans who thought the singer was supposed to perform at the opening ceremony on November 20 alongside fellow Nigerian singer CKay became worried when he did not show up on stage.
However, the ‘Buga’ star who confirmed he will be performing at the event, noted that he was billed to perform on November 23 and not 20 as speculated.
The 28-year-old confirmed this in an Instagram post on Friday, November 11 where he posted photos of himself and other artistes that will be performing at the World cup.
Captioning his post, he wrote: “This one is for Africa. This one is for Vado nation. See you in Qatar World Cup on 23/11/2022.”
The opening ceremony of the event in Qatar gave a visual spectacle to fans across the globe. Oscar-winning American actor Morgan Freeman was the narrator in the beginning as he extended one yellow-gloved hand to a FIFA World Cup ambassador suffering from a rare spinal disorder in an image meant to represent inclusion in a country facing international criticism over its human rights record.
Thereafter, lead vocalist of the Korean pop band BTS, Jung Kook, lit up the Al Bayt Stadium with his performance alongside Qatari singer Fahad Al-Kubaisi.
Qatar’s ruler then opened the World Cup with a call for people of all races and orientations to put aside their differences.
Meanwhile, those who thought Kizz Daniel was supposed to perform at the opening ceremony stormed Twitter to react.
Julio Kitoko wrote: “Shey be Davido, Kizz Daniel & Co suppose to perform for the World Cup opening ceremony… wetin come happen wey we no see them.”
Ajoke wrote: “I thought Kizz Daniel said he’ll be performing at the World Cup?”
Fai Boris added: “I did not see. Kizz Daniel or Davido at the World Cup opening ceremony. After all the hype from Nigerians and me in particular, looking forward for him to ginger and Buga the crowd. What went wrong? Did lack of electricity stop Nigerians from not being updated in time?”
“I thought you people said Kizz Daniel and Davido were going to perform at the World Cup open ceremony? What happened?” Steeze asked.
Kakosa wrote: “Ah did Kizz Daniel performed at the World cup opening ceremony? I missed that session.”
Roland wrote: “Kizz Daniel what happened to your performance at the world cup?”
