Kogi State government and the monarch of Isanlu have said they would ensure that the late writer and scholar, Pius Adesanmi, is immortalised.
Prof. Adesanmi, alongside 156 others aboard an Ethiopian Airlines plane, died on March 10 when the aircraft crashed few minutes after take-off from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Commissioner for education, science and technology, Rosemary Osikoya, said during a tribute organised in honour of the deceased in Abuja that Adesanmi’s books would be made available in the state’s school libraries.
She, however, said the idea of naming the state library after Adesanmi had not been proposed, but that the government would encourage the idea.
Also, the traditional ruler of Isanlu, where Adesanmi hailed from, Oba Moses Babatunde, said an annual lecture would be organised in Adesanmi’s honour.
“We will bring everybody from all walks of life to the lecture and that will encourage our youths to be able to write about the society and how the country can develop from where it is,” the monarch said.
The monarch also said he would discuss with his traditional council to see if the secondary school Adesanmi attended could be named after him.
He added that if such proposal was not possible, the community would build an institution to be named after him.
