Korede Bello and some other artistes were on stage at the University of Lagos on Tuesday in a music concert to dissuade the country’s youths against the evil vices of cultism, internet fraud, drug abuse and others.
The event, which was organised by Police Zone 2 Command in collaboration with Nigerian entertainers, was tagged “Entertainment Meets Security.”
Korede Bello was the lead performer at the musical concert, supported by the likes of Dr Sid, Ruggedman, Sound Sultan, Small Doctor and Odunlade Adekola.
They were joined on stage by some up and coming artistes who performed in turns on the dangers of cultism, scams and drug abuse.
Speaking at the concert, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Idiat Adebule, identified unemployment as a major challenge which denies youths opportunity to contribute to national development.
“I commend the Zone 2 Police Command for this laudable idea and for collaborating with celebrities, who can easily pass the message across on the hazards of getting themselves involved in evil vices.
“Youths are the foundation and bedrock of any nation and they made up to 50 per cent of the country’s population, so they must be adequately engaged in order to shun crime,” she said.
Adebule was represented by Mrs Yetunde Odejayi, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Lagos State.
Adamu Ibrahim, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 2, urged youths to shun drugs, cultism and kidnapping which were capable of destroying their lives.
Mr Ibrahim advised the youths to transfer the same talent and ideas used in perpetrating those vices to a good use, become self-reliant and contribute their quota to the development of the country.
The AIG was represented by, Ben Osuji, a Chief Superintendent at Police Zone 2 Command.
“Drugs and social crimes have been the bane among the youths in this country. Nigerian youths are very talented and should transfer same into better use.
“Youths are the most vulnerable in crime and so we urge them to build themselves to become good ambassadors of the nation,” Ibrahim said.
Speaking at the event, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, Oluwo of Iwo in Osun State, also appealed to the youths not to live in the past.
He urged youths to believe in themselves that they could become successful in life without getting involved in drugs, internet fraud and engaging in vices.
Akanbi urged the Federal Government to create jobs and empower more youths to curb crimes in the country.
Korede Bello was an ambassador of the event where all the artistes were given certificates of participation.
