Celebrated actor-director, Kunle Afolayan, and actress, Genevieve Nnaji, will make a case for Nollywood at the 41st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which runs from September 8 to 18, 2016 in Canada, Qed.ng has learned.
Kunle, whose latest film, The CEO, was premiered aboard an Air France flight from Lagos to Paris on June 3, will be the focus of a special feature at the festival.
He will also join Genevieve and others to discuss the motion picture industry in Africa with special focus on Nigeria.
Confirming the appearance at what is described as second only to the Cannes Film Festival, a source close to Kunle told our correspondent that “this is going to be one of the biggest celebrations of Nollywood on the global stage.”
The Figurine director was said to be on his way to Ghana on Thursday and could not be reached for comments.
TIFF organisers had earlier announced that Lagos will take the spotlight in the City to City segment of the festival.
Artistic Director, Cameron Bailey, and officials of the state government made the announcement in Lagos in June, saying the development would help project Lagos to an international audience at the festival.
Founded in 1976, TIFF is a publicly attended film festival held every September.
