Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has officially revealed the returning and new cast members for the highly anticipated second season of Anikulapo.
In a series of Instagram posts on Monday, Kunle confirmed that Netflix has renewed the show for another season, building on the success of its debut.
The director also provided insights into the upcoming season’s plot which will explore Nigerian history and culture, including the transatlantic slave trade.
Anikulapo’s second season promises to expand beyond the Oyo Empire, introducing fresh locations, new international actors and engaging storylines.
It was filmed in parts of Oyo State, Nigeria and Cape Coast, Ghana.
In his post Kunle wrote, “Unveiling the new stars/talent of Anikulapo series… Back, and bigger than ever. Netflix confirms new season of Anikulapo!!!
We are thrilled to announce that Netflix has officially renewed Anikulapo for another exciting season!”
“Returning cast members include Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, Gabriel Afolayan, Owo Ogunde, Aisha Lawal, and Eyiyemi Afolayan.
However, notably absent from the list is Kunle Remi who played the lead role of Saro in the first season.
New faces joining the cast include Jide Awobona, Saga Deolu, Tayo Faniran and Antar Laniyan.
Kunle Afolayan recently completed filming for the new season in Cape Coast, Ghana after wrapping up the Nigerian segments at the KAP film village in Igbojaye.
The first installment of Anikulapo, a Netflix original premiered on September 30, 2022.
The series spinoff, Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre, debuted on March 1, 2024.
Both were written by Shola Dada, directed and produced by Kunle.
