Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo has become the most-watched non-English speaking film on Netflix from October 3 to October 9, 2022.
The filmmaker made the announcement in a Twitter post on Wednesday where he posted screenshots of the weekly report.
The report revealed that Anikulapo was watched for 8,730,000 hours in one week.
The 48-year-old also thanked the cast, crew and fans for their support.
He wrote: “Netflix officially confirmed that Anikulapo is now ranked No 1 globally In non-English titles @NetflixNaija @WeAreNetflix @netflix Congratulations to us all and thank you guys for your support of referrals. Ire @kapfilmvillage @kap_hub @goldeneffects.”
Set in the 17th century Oyo kingdom and directed by Kunle Afolayan, Anikulapo is the story of Saro, a travelling cloth weaver, who was beaten to death for having an affair with the Alaafin’s youngest wife Queen.
The movie stars Bimbo Ademoye, Kunle Remi, Sola Sobowale, Taiwo Hassan, Adebayo Salami, Dele Odule, Yinka Quadri, Faithia Williams, Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Mr Macaroni, Sunday Omobolanle, Toyin Afolayan, Kareem Adepoju and Hakeem Kae-Kazim.
