Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of being the brain behind the dethronement of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi ll.
Mr Kwankwaso appointed Sanusi as the Emir of Kano in 2014.
The ex-governor told BBC Hausa on Wednesday that “Kano State government officials have been saying they were directed to dethrone Mr Sanusi ll. He (Buhari) instructed them.”
Kwankwaso alleged that Buhari intervenes in whatever issues he chooses, contrary to what his aides are saying about the president not interfering in the crisis.
“He doesn’t interfere where his intervention is needed, but intervenes on issues he is supposed to be neutral about,” he said.
Buhari had in February said he did not have constitutional powers to interfere in the crisis between Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Sanusi.
He could he could only interfere if it endangers lives and property.
Kwankwaso also dismissed the allegation that he queried Sanusi twice during his tenure as governor.
“I have never issued a query to His Highness, (the) Emir of Kano,” he said.
The former governor said that to the best of his knowledge, as the government officials said, Sanusi’s offence was his statement that whoever wins Kano 2019 governorship election should be given his mandate.
Kwankwaso said the banishment of Sanusi to Nasarawa State was disrespectful to Kano people.
