Kwara State Government has sanctioned a teacher at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, the state capital for assaulting a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Press secretary of the Teaching Service Commission Bola Onile announced this in a statement on Wednesday.
Last Thursday, an NYSC member (name withheld) was assaulted for allegedly failing to greet properly when she went to the school to pick up her monthly clearance letter.
Onile’s statement revealed that the investigative panel found the teacher Hamzat Nike guilty of fighting on duty, using foul language, insubordination and disrespecting the national identity represented by the corps members’ uniform.
The statement reads: “The Kwara State Government has sanctioned the school teacher accused of maltreating a youth corps member posted to Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.
“In a joint statement by the Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, the government said the investigative panel set up on the matter found Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike guilty of fighting on duty, use of foul language, insubordination, and disrespect for the national identity which the uniform of the corp members represent.
“Her behaviour contravenes public service rules, and she has therefore been demoted by two grade levels. The teacher is also to be transferred out of her current school as well as undergo counselling sessions.”
The government assured the NYSC that such incident would not happen again.
