The Kwara government on Friday pledged to invest more in critical components in Human Capital Development (HCD), for a better growth of the state.
The Kwara Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi, said this in Ilorin at a Stakeholders’ Workshop on Human Capital Development across the three senatorial districts of the state.
The workshop was organised by the National Office of Human Capital Development, Abuja, in collaboration with the Kwara government.
The theme is “From Strategy to Action: Harmonising Kwara State Human Capital Development Implementation.”
Alabi, who was represented by the Commissioner for Communications, Mrs. Bolanle Olukoju, said that HCD remained the cornerstone to any development.
According to Alabi, HCD is essential for growth, and the Kwara government is keen on it.
“We believe that when we invest in building human capital, the state and Nigeria will be better for it.
“HCD is essential for any nation that wants to expand its economic growth,” he added.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Yakubu Salihu, described the workshop as a step in attaining quality education.
The speaker, represented by the Chairman, House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development, Mr. Mohammed Salihu, said the workshop was timely and a welcomed development.
According to him, it will help in identifying challenges and offer solutions in areas of human capital required to advance the state.
He said there was a need for the nation’s system of education to be futuristic, stressing that the advent of technology had made it inevitable.
In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Social Development, Dr Mariam Nnafatima-Imam, said human capital development is key to driving innovation.
Imam pointed out that the state government had invested hugely in critical sectors of the economy, including HCD.
“As we all know, HCD is the cornerstone of any state’s success. It is the key to unlocking full potential, driving innovation and achieving sustainable economic growth.
“For Kwara, human capital development is particularly crucial as we strive to achieve our vision of becoming a hub for commerce, industry and innovation,” she said.
