A 30-year-old labourer, Tukur Abdullahi, is to spend the next 90 days in jail for attempting to abduct a minor, a Minna Magistrates’ Court ruled on Thursday.

Magistrate Mariam Kings, who gave the verdict, did not give the convict an option of fine.

Abdullahi, whose address was not provided, had pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted abduction of a child and begged for leniency.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor Emmanuel Danladi told the court that Abdullahi was caught in the act and brought to the police station by a vigilance group.

Danladi said the vigilance group was on patrol when they caught the accused luring a seven-year-old girl from PZ to Alagbado area of Minna.

The accused could not give a satisfactory account of how he came about the girl, he said.

The offence contravened Section 273 of the Penal Code.
