Ladoja sues Makinde, Olubadan over newly-crowned kings

Rashidi Ladoja

Former governor of Oyo State Rashidi Ladoja has sued the incumbent governor Seyi Makinde and Olubadan of Ibadanland Oba Lekan Balogun to court over the elevation of some high chiefs to kings.

Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan, also sued the 10 kings elevated before Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan.

The new kings are Owolabi Olakulehin; Tajudeen Ajibola; Eddy Oyewole; Lateef Adebimpe; Biodun Kola-Daisi; Kola Adegbola; Hamidu Ajibade; Olubunmi Isioye; Bayo Akande and Abiodun Azeez.

On June 22, Makinde approved the elevation following the recommendation of the Olubadan.

The governor, last Friday, presented the staff of office to the new kings.

Ladoja had earlier rejected the elevation, saying he was only interested in the position of the Olubadan.

While speaking at his Bodija residence after observing Eid prayers at the University of Ibadan (UI) Muslim praying ground, Ladoja said there is no need to fix what is not broken.

“Nothing has changed, you don’t mend what is not broken, it is not fair to elevate high chiefs to Obas, my focus is to become Olubadan, no lesser Oba.

“I don’t think it is fair to have high chiefs as obas. Who are you competing with? It is not in our tradition.”

“Ladoja is not interested in wearing an elevated crown,” he said.
