The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has been buried at the National Military Cemetery in the nation’s capital.
The burial on Friday brought an end to his military career that spanned several decades.
At exactly 4:41 pm after a funeral service that lasted over two hours, Lagbaja’s casket, draped in Nigeria’s green and white colours, was lowered into the earth.
The funeral procession arrived at the cemetery around 3 pm in a white funeral wagon after a service at the National Christian Centre.
A service of songs was held on Thursday at the army headquarters garrison parade ground at Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.
Lagbaja’s body was flown into Abuja from Lagos on Thursday aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, arriving at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 12:15 pm.
Family, friends, military personnel and dignitaries gathered to honour the life and service of the late general who contributed to the nation’s security during his career.
