Akinwunmi Ambode

The Lagos State House of Assembly has set up a committee to probe the administration of former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

The Fatai Mojeed-led committee was inaugurated on Tuesday.

As part of its mandate, the committee will investigate the purchase of 820 buses worth N7 billion for public transport.

This follows a raid on Ambode’s residence in Epe last Tuesday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the freezing of the sum of N9.9 billion allegedly linked to him.

The assembly had threatened to impeach Ambode towards the end of his tenure.

Ambode handed over as governor on May 29, 2019, after he was denied a second term by the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a falling-out with former Governor Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu’s loyalists in the APC are reportedly behind his travails, which many believe is responsible for President Muhammadu Buhari not offering him a ministerial position.
