Lagos State Government has banned the operation of commercial motorcyclists aka Okada riders in four more local government areas and five local council development areas.
Commissoner for transportation Fredric Oladeinde, and commissoner for information and srategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced this at an inter-ministerial media briefing on Thursday in Alausa, Ikeja.
The affected local governments are Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Shomolu, and Mushin.
The councils include Ikosi-Isherri, Agboyi-Ketu, Isolo, Bariga, and Odi-Olowo.
The ban in the aforementioned locations will take effect from September 1, 2022.
The state government began the clampdown on Okada riders in May. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ordered “indefinite and total” ban of Okada on highways and six local governments and nine LCDAs.
The six local governments listed by the governor are Ikeja, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, and Apapa.
Sanwo-Olu said the government took the decision in line with the state’s Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018 to immediately address the chaos and menace created by the operations of Okada in the listed areas.
The governor’s action followed mob attacks on Lagos residents by Okada riders.
