Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has denied appointing the suspended chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos State council, Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo, as general manager of the state transport parks and garages committee.
Chief press secretary to the governor Gboyega Akosile addressed the matter on the governor’s behalf in a post to social media on Friday after MC Oluomo’s son claimed otherwise.
The union leader’s son King West had congratulated him on the alleged appointment on Instagram.
“Please disregard post(s) claiming that Gov @jidesanwoolu has appointed suspended Chairman of NURTW, MC Oluomo as GM, Lagos Transport Parks and garages committee,” Mr Akosile said.
“There’s no such appointment. The statement issued yesterday (Thursday) by @gbenga_omo, HC information and strategy remains position of Government.”
The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, had on Thursday night announced the suspension of NURTW in the state with immediate effect.
Crisis in the NURTW reached a crescendo on Thursday when the national body suspended MC Oluomo indefinitely for alleged insubordination, misconduct among others. The suspension forced MC Oluomo and Lagos NURTW to pull out from the national body.
The government’s action followed suggestion by MC Oluomo at a press conference at the NURTW secretariat in Agege for the government to take over the running of all parks and garages in the state till peace returned to the union.
