House officers at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island on Wednesday began a protest over the death of their colleague Vwaere Diaso.
The medical doctor died on Tuesday after the elevator she had taken to pick up her food from a vendor fell from the 10th floor, killing her.
It was learnt that the elevator had been faulty for a while.
Diaso reportedly had two weeks left to the completion of her housemanship at the hospital.
The hospital’s house officers protested at the Lagos State Government Heath Service Commission, demanding justice for the deceased.

Dressed in black, they carried placards with messages such as, “It could have been me” and “The system is rigged against young doctors.”
“All we are saying, give us justice,” they chanted.
A colleague of the deceased, who craved anonymity, spoke with PUNCH about the elevator.
“On multiple occasions, the elevator has stopped while we were inside. And there’s no maintenance,” he said, adding that the hospital management was aware of the poor state of the elevator but failed to act.
“We report every time. The elevator is supposed to carry 630kg maximum, that’s eight people,” he said.
