Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, has debunked a claim that the state distributed expired rice as part of palliatives to the vulnerable to cushion the effect of the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
A lady, Iyabo Johnson, on Thursday, shared pictures of the rice on Twitter, calling out the state government and accusing it of distributing expired rice to the masses.
In response, Mr Akosile assured that the rice did not come from the state.
He added that the lady would be contacted for investigation.
“This certainly didn’t come from our food bank. You’d be contacted for proper investigation,” he wrote.
“We have given out hundreds of thousands of wholesome packaged food stuffs and none was like what you’ve shown here. Appropriate persons have been notified and they will reach out to you.”
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday extended the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory by 14 days after an initial two-week lockdown.
