The Lagos State Police Command has condoled the family of Bolanle Raheem, a female lawyer killed by an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) on Christmas Day.
Mrs. Raheem was in a vehicle with members of her family when the suspect fatally shot her.
The police officer, who fled the scene, was later caught and detained by the police.
Confirming the incident, Lagos police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said the ASP and two others with him have been taken into custody for further investigation.
“Unfortunate and avoidable incident that was. The ASP that shot and two others with him have since been taken into custody. They are to be moved to the SCID for further investigation,” Mr. Hundeyin wrote in a tweet on Monday.
He added that the command condoles with the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, has been in touch with the family and the Nigerian Bar Association since yesterday and has given firm assurances that justice will definitely prevail,” Hundeyin concluded.
