The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the burial site of Lagos State University (LASU) graduate Adedamola Ogunbode following the arrest of the principal suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo.
Ajisomo, who was initially rumoured to have fled to the Benin Republic, was apprehended on Monday morning in the Alakuko area of Lagos.
According to police sources, he has been leading detectives to the location where Ogunbode was buried.
Lagos police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest and the discovery of the burial site on Tuesday.
Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate, had been missing since January 16, 2025, with reports suggesting that his mutilated body had been found.
Last Friday, the Lagos police announced the arrest of three suspects linked to the case and said they were searching for five others.
Among those arrested was a pastor, Whepetoji Sunday, who allegedly received N70,000 from the victim’s account and Sheriff Adebayo, a church member who was said to have received N300,000.
The suspect’s mother, Omolara Ajisomo, was also arrested for allegedly aiding her sons, Teniola and Olaoluwa, in fleeing after they each reportedly withdrew N300,000 from Ogunbode’s account.
Following pressure from the LASU Students’ Union, which threatened a statewide protest, Lagos Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.
Hundeyin disclosed that Ajisomo was responsible for clearing Ogunbode’s bank account using the victim’s mobile phone.
“The principal suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo, was arrested yesterday (Monday) morning in the Alakuko area. He was the one who emptied the victim’s bank account through his mobile phone,” he said.
However, Hundeyin dismissed social media claims that Ogunbode was buried within a church premises.
He explained that while the grave was in the same community, it was not inside the church. He also revealed that the police had sealed the church where the arrested pastor worshipped to prevent an attack.
“The church was sealed following intelligence reports that some people planned to burn it down in retaliation,” he added.
Meanwhile, a police source told Punch that detectives were en route to exhume Ogunbode’s body from the shallow grave after the newly arrested suspect confessed to the killing.
When asked for confirmation, Hundeyin simply replied, “Confirmed.”
