Former Lagos Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Development, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele, Thursday died at a hospital in India.
He was aged 60.
His son, Sultan Adeniji-Adele, confirmed the death in a message that reads: “Good morning every one. My dad Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele this morning passed on in India. May almighty Allah grant him Aljanah fidau.”
The politician had been away from the country for two months.
He had surgery on Monday.
Known as the Prince of Hope, the former chairman of Lagos Island Local Government combined politics with deep passion for sport and activism.
He was made commissioner under former Lagos Governor, Babatunde Fashola, after unsuccessful bids for the governorship and deputy governorship of the state.
He later quit the All Progressives Party (APC) the incarnation of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) under which he served as commissioner for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and launched a campaign against his former party, particularly its leader, Bola Tinubu.
Adeniji-Adele was the southwest coordinator of the Atiku for President Campaign Organisation in the last APC presidential primary before he defected to the PDP.
His remains, according to family sources, will arrive Nigeria on Friday for internment on Saturday.
Adeniji-Adele, he is survived by wife, Tawakalitu and children.
