The National Chairman and entire members of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) have commiserated with families of the victims of the petrol tanker explosion that occurred in Lagos on Thursday.
Nine people lost their lives and 54 vehicles destroyed following a crash involving a tanker that fell and caught fire on the Otedola bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In a message made available to Qed.ng on Friday, NUPENG National Chairman, Otunba Salmon Oladiti, described the tragedy as “most unfortunate”.
He said members of the association have been collaborating with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other government agencies to observe safety standards.
The statement reads in part: “This is a most unfortunate occurrence because in the recent past, such calamities have been avoided as members of the NUPENG /PTD have been collaborating with the FRSC and other law enforcement agencies in observing minimum safety standards on the highways and engaging in training and retraining of our members.
“All efforts will be put in place to ensure that this kind of disaster does not occur again on our roads. We sincerely mourn the dead and share the pains of affected families, the Lagos State Government and the entire people of Nigeria.”
