Operatives of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit have arrested 26 suspected Awawa cult members in Agege area of the state.
Chairman of the agency, Olayinka Egbeyemi, said the suspected Awawa cult members were arrested during over-night enforcement operations in several areas of the state.
Mr Egbeyemi said the areas were raided because of threat to lives of residents and innocent members of the public.
He also said that 64 hoodlums including three teenagers were arrested during over-night raid in Oshodi area of the state.
“It is disheartening that most parents have abdicated their responsibility towards their children as youths are now found to be deeply involved in gangsterism.
“Honestly, most of the violent crime committed across the State were perpetrated by youths who lacks parental care and joined cultism to avoid being intimidated by their peers,” Egbeyemi said.
The agency said Lagos police commissioner, Zubairu Muazu, has directed that all those arrested be charged to court for prosecution.
Also, the agency said it dislodged more than 1,500 illegal traders and impounded 96 motorcycles for plying restricted routes around Igando.
