Lagosians lament lockdown as Buhari makes historic visit

Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari arrived Lagos on Thursday morning for a two-day official visit.

It is the first of its kind since the 75-year-old was sworn in as a democratically elected President on May 29, 2017.

A planned trip to Lagos in May 2016 was aborted at the last minute, with a terse statement from the presidency saying Buhari had an ear infection.

He was then represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

While in the Centre of Excellence, the President will commission a number of projects and attend the Bola Tinubu Colloquium.

The Lagos State Government had announced Thursday as a work-free day ahead of the visit.

A travel advisory was also issued ahead of the commissioning of the newly built Ikeja Bus Terminal.

The Nigeria Bar Association was on Wednesday warned not to embark on a planned protest against the revised Lagos land use charge during Buhari’s visit.

Many Lagosians whose movement and other activities are affected by the visit have spoken out about their inconvenience.

Below are some of the reactions as captured on Twitter.
