Deputy chief news producer at Africa Independent Television (AIT) Lara Wise has expressed sorrow over the death of the group chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc Herbert Wigwe.
Mr Wigwe died in a helicopter crash in the United States on Friday night.
The aircraft was headed to Las Vegas when it crashed near a border city between Nevada and California.
The helicopter, a Eurocopter EC 130, was carrying six people onboard at the time of the incident.
Reacting to the news of Wigwe’s death on Saturday night, Wise posted the video of a report on the crash on Instagram and wrote: “Wigwe??? 5 others????” She added crying emojis for emphasis.
Reports say others onboard the aircraft included Wigwe’s wife Chizoba and son and the group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) Abimbola Ogunbanjo.
This comes less than two months after the spokesman of Access Bank Abdul Imoyo died on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at First Cardiology, Ikoyi, Lagos, after a brief illness.
In a January 19, 2024 post on X (formerly Twitter), Wigwe admonished his followers and members of the public to appreciate life, saying ‘Let us number our days.’
He wrote: “Today and always, let us remember that life is a precious gift – a chance to breathe, feel, love, experience and connect.
“Let’s honor this gift by living with purpose, kindness, and gratitude, making every moment count. Let us number our days.”
The news of his death has left many, including those in the banking and finance industry, devastated.
The banker’s establishment, Wigwe University, was only recently opened for admission.
