Professor Lai Oso of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at the Lagos State University (LASU) has died in a road accident.
He was 67 years old.
The accident reportedly occurred along the Ore-Sagamu Expressway on Saturday evening.
He was said to be coming from Delta State University (DELSU) where he was an external examiner at the department of mass communication.
Dean of LASU’s Faculty of Communication and Media Studies Prof Sunday Alawode confirmed the death in a message seen by Qed.ng on Sunday morning.
The message read “I am constrained to inform us of the involvement of Professor Muraino Olayiwola OSO, (we all fondly called Baba Lai Oso) in a ghastly auto accident which claimed his life yesterday 24th June 2023.
“It’s a rude shock to all of us even as we commiserate with Mummy Oso, the children and his entire family, the Communication family worldwide, LASU Community and all others.
“Baba, your sudden exit is painful, but we rest in the comfort that you have gone to be with the Lord.
“Rest in Peace.
“Adieu Baba of the Communication family.”
Born on October 15, 1955, Oso attended the University of Lagos and the University of Ife where he bagged a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and a master’s in international relations respectively.
He obtained his PhD from the University of Leicester.
Oso at different times served as dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, LASU; deputy rector, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, and dean of students affairs, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos.
