The Lagos State University, in partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), is planning to host the African Borderlands Research Network Conference (ABORNE).

The LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

She said that more than 250 scholars, practitioners and development organisations were expected to attend the conference, which would be taking place in Nigeria for the first time.

“Come September 2026, history will be made as LASU and NIS will be hosting the next edition of the African Borderlands Research Network Conference for the first time in Nigeria.

“Preparations are ongoing as I have also met with the comptroller-general of NIS in Abuja.

“The theme of the conference is: ‘The Connected Borderlands, Socio-Cultural Integration and the centrality of policy, research and security.”

She said that the university would run the border and migration studies programme at bachelor’s, postgraduate, professional certificate and diploma levels.
