Police in Lagos have arrested a man, Babatunde Adeyeye, of Kajola Street, Shagamu, Ogun State, who appeared in a viral video kissing his three-year-old stepsister (name withheld).
Mr Adeyeye, according to a statement by Lagos police spokesman, Bala Elkana, on Friday, is a botany student of Lagos State University (LASU).
The incident is said to have occurred on June 2 in their residence at Shagamu.
Mr Elkana said the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, tasked detectives from the gender unit to analyse the video and apprehend the suspect.
Adeyeye was arrested on June 5 and has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba for prosecution in court.
“The Commissioner of Police expressed his gratitude to Nigerians who helped in bringing the incident to the notice of the police and urged everyone to continue to speak out against sexual and gender based violence. Together we can stop rape, stop child abuse and crime against our women and children,” he said.
