Lateef Adedimeji, wife announce Netflix release date for movie Lisabi

Actor Lateef Adedimeji has officially announced that his latest film, Lisabi: The Uprising, will be available on Netflix starting September 27, 2024.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Lateef shared behind-the-scenes photos from the upcoming epic, revealing its much-anticipated release date.

In his post, he expressed his excitement, writing: “Lisabi is here!!! My new creation is finally here. My long-awaited biopic chronicling the escapades of the Ultimate Egba Warrior farmer

“#LISABI is finally here.

“After my exploits in Ayinla, I knew I had to do this to further glorify my Egba heritage. EGBA people, this is for you!!!!! The entire Yoruba, Africa, and Blacks worldwide, this is for you!!!!!”

Lateef’s wife, Adebimpe Oyebade also shared a post revealing how her husband is the brain behind the film project. She also reflected on the challenges faced and how she worked to overcome them.

She wrote, “When @adedimejilateef told me he wanted us to bring LISABI, one of his favorite heros, a representation of his heritage to the screen, I knew I had to put my all cos I knew the endeavor was going to be my greatest challenge yet.

“To produce a movie of over a thousand cast was a huge test and I know you all will love it! This is for my Egbas, Yorubas and the entire African heritage all over the world!!!”

Prominent actors Odunlade Adekola, Femi Adebayo, and Ibrahim Yekini, among others, have also shared posts about the film on their social media pages.

Lisabi: The Uprising is the first installment of an epic saga, with the sequel, Lisabi: A Legend is Born, scheduled for release in January 2025.

The film centers on the life and legacy of the legendary Yoruba hero Lisabi, whose actions left an indelible mark on Yoruba history.

Set in the 18th century, it tells the story of an Egba farmer who leads a rebellion against the oppressive Oyo Empire.

His defiance culminates in the defeat of over 6,000 Oyo soldiers, securing independence for the Egba people after centuries of subjugation.

According to the producers, the film boasts a compelling storyline, dynamic characters, and high production values.

Lisabi is executive-produced by Lateef Adedimeji and directed by Niyi Akinmolayan. The film is produced by Al Notions Studios in collaboration with Anthill Studios, with the story written by Niyi Akinmolayan and Yinka Olaoye.

The star-studded cast includes Femi Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Itele Yekini, Ibrahim Chattah, Mo Bimpe, Eniola Ajao, Liquorose Afije, and Lateef Adedimeji.
