Senate President Ahmad Lawan has sworn in Smart Adeyemi as Kogi West senator.
Adeyemi was declared the winner of a re-run election conducted on Saturday.

He defeated his major challenger, Dino Melaye, who was seeking re-election.
Adeyemi polled 88,373 votes while Melaye recorded 62,133 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

After the initial election held on November 16, Melaye and Adeyemi respectively polled 80,118 and 59,548 votes.
The margin of 20,570 votes between the two candidates was far less than the 43,127 registered voters in the 53 polling units where elections were cancelled, necessitating a re-run.
