A lawyer Tope Akinyode has filed a motion at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to be joined in the suit instituted by a former presidential aspirant Adamu Garba against the chief executive of Twitter Jack Dorsey.
Mr Garba had dragged Mr Dorsey to court for supporting the #EndSARS campaign against police brutality in Nigeria.
Garba on Tuesday asked the court to ban Twitter from operating in any part of the country.
However, in his affidavit filed before the court on Wednesday, Mr Akinyode asked the court to quash the suit, saying: “That my tweets and that of other Nigerians carry a lot of weight with the government, so much that government prints out our tweets and it is a priority activity for the Vice President of Nigeria to devote adequate time to study the print out tweets of Nigerians.”
Garba accused Dorsey and Twitter of “sponsoring” the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria.
He asked the court to give “an order directing the 7th Respondent to stop the operation of Twitter Intl Company in any part of the territory of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“AN ORDER directing the 8th and 9th respondents jointly to pay the applicant the sum of USD 1 Billion as damages.”
Dorsey, Twitter and the #EndSARS protesters are named as eighth, ninth and 10th respondents in the suit.
