Fuji musician, Adewale Ayuba, has advised Nigerian musicians to use their songs for the good of the society, rather than promoting internet fraud, often referred to in Nigeria as “Yahoo”.
The ‘Happy People’ singer gave the advice in an interview with HipTV posted on Instagram on Tuesday.
He said instead of focusing on internet fraud, musicians should use their songs to educate people, especially the youths.
“Whatever that is Yahoo that you know that is not good for our people we have to drop it. You know you just don’t sing your song for nothing. You have to use your song to educate people at least; even you should use your song to talk to the government, talk to the couple, talk to the children. That’s all. So song is not something that you put together for the fun of it,” Ayuba said.
The 51-year-old double KORA Award winner’s words re-echoes statement by singer and actor, Falz, that musicians should stop promoting fraud with their songs.
That statement prompted a reply from 9ice, whose song, Living Things, makes reference to making money by all means necessary.
The social media played up a “beef” between Falz and 9ice but the two have denied that any such thing existed between them.
