Leicester back to winning ways after sacking Ranieri

Leicester City played far more like the title-winning team of last season than the relegation-threatened flops of this as they beat Liverpool 3-1 in style at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.

Jamie Vardy scored twice, either side of a superb Danny Drinkwater effort, as Liverpool’s makeshift defence failed to cope with the Foxes’ pace and movement.

A Philippe Coutinho strike put the Reds on the scoreboard midway through the second half but that was little consolation for the visitors.

This was Leicester’s first match after the controversial sacking of Claudio Ranieri, and many observers will have been left wondering how Leicester’s players managed to raise their game so markedly.

In the absence of the Italian, caretaker manager, Craig Shakespeare, was at the thick of things for the reigning champions.

Super Eagles youngster, Wilfred Ndidi, was outstanding alongside Drinkwater in midfield for the Foxes.

Whereas compatriot, Ahmed Musa, wasn’t even in the matchday squad as his Leicester future continues to hang in the air.

The result takes the Foxes to 15th on the log with 25 points while Liverpool’s hopes of challenging for the top four is gradually fading.
