Managing Director of Lekki Concession Company Abayomi Omomuwa says the surveillance camera at Lekki toll gate stopped recording on October 20 at about 8 pm.
Mr Omomuwa stated this on Tuesday while testifying before a judicial panel of inquiry set up by the Lagos State Government to probe the October 20 incident as well as complaints of human rights abuses against members of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Observers have been calling for the release of the footage which they believe captured the shooting of #EndSARS protesters by men in military uniform on October 20.
But while submitting the footage to the panel, Omomuwa said the camera network was interfered with and stopped recording.
“I can confirm categorically that we never ever tampered with that surveillance cameras. That’s why we can still get the footage. Until 8 o’clock when it was tampered with and we couldn’t get any footage anymore,” he said.
Omomuwa further said neither he nor any member of the company’s staff witnessed the shooting of protesters at the toll gate.
According to him, the staff vacated the toll gate following the announcement of a curfew from 4 pm by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
