Nigerians have reacted with outrage on social media following the arrest and detention of comedian Mr Macaroni who joined the protest at Lekki toll gate in Lagos on Saturday.
The government had previously warned they would clamp down on protesters.
Mr Macaroni was still speaking to his fans in an Instagram Live session when he was ushered into the Black Maria stationed at the toll gate.
The protest was held to show displeasure with the decision of the Lagos State judicial panel of inquiry allowing the Lekki Concession Company to reopen the Lekki toll gate following the shooting of protesters last year by soldiers.
A graduate of Redeemers University, Ede, Mr Macaroni had learnt his voice and rallied with #EndSARS protesters against police brutality and bad governance in Nigeria in October 2020.
