Barely 72 hours before the double-header Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Super Eagles, Libya coach Adel Amrouche has left his role.
Amrouche quit on Tuesday after a reported fallout with the country’s FA over unpaid salaries.
The former Kenya national team coach was appointed only in May, overseeing just a single match against South Africa.
The Libyan FA has threatened to sue the manager whom they’ve replaced with assistant Omar Al Marmi.
Libya occupies the top spot in Group E of the AFCON qualifiers with four points from two games following their 5-1 win over Seychelles in June last year and goalless draw recorded away to South Africa.
South Africa is second with the same number of points but an inferior goal difference while Nigeria is third with three points from two games.
Amrouche caused controversy in September when he claimed Nigeria believed in “juju” to win games.
The Belgian-Algerian was quick retract his statement.
I apologise to the Nigeria football community for using the words JUJU in the press conference in SA.I used the word in jest.I respect Nigerians and their RICH football tradition.I’m a man who likes joking, but I realise I used the word out of context. Please accept my apologies.
