Super Eagles forward, Odion Ighalo, is following the footsteps of compatriot, Mikel Obi, after being handed his club’s captaincy.
Mikel, 29, was instantly made skipper of Tianjin TEDA after joining the Chinese Super League (CSL) side from Chelsea.
And Ighalo who also dumped the Premier League for the Asian nation was also given a similar role at his own club, Changchun Yatai.
But unlike Mikel, the former Watford striker was given the armband in the club’s first two games in the absence of their substantive skipper.
The club lost both games but it is unclear if the 27-year-old will continue in his new role next week against Shangdong Luneng.
“I am not the captain of Changchun Yatai, but for the last two games I did captain the team,” Ighalo told Allnigeriasoccer.
The former Nigeria Under-20 captain netted 16 goals in the Premier League for Watford, before he left the club for Yatai.
