Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, says she is looking forward to welcoming African-American rapper, Lil Wayne, to Nigeria.
A video went viral on Wednesday of the rapper telling his hosts during an interviewer that he had an ancestry test conducted by a website he shared some of his details on.
According to him, the website revealed he was more Nigerian than American.
“Shout out to Nigeria, I did my 23 and me ancestry dot com and my shit came back like 53% Nigerian. Yea! Me and my mum need to have a talk,” Lil Wayne said.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa encouraged the rapper to identify with his roots.
“Our Nigerian brother. Many doing their DNA and identifying their roots. We look forward to welcoming him home someday soon,” she said.
In January, the rapper was seen in a video clip shared on social media expressing desire to visit Nigeria.
His comments came on the heels of the visit of another American rapper, Cardi B, to Nigeria last December.
