Actress Lilian Afegbai has expressed shock and frustration after being asked to pay $1,200 (over N1.9 million) for aso ebi at a friend’s wedding in Lagos.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Lilian recounted how she happily congratulated her friend after receiving an invitation, only to be left stunned when she saw the cost of the wedding fabric.

“Una don dey sell aso ebi in dollars for Lagos? You people now sell aso ebi for your own wedding in dollars? You guys are doing too much!” she exclaimed.

Lili initially assumed the aso ebi price was in naira, thinking her friend was being generous. However, she was left in disbelief upon realizing it was priced in dollars.

“I checked the price and saw 1200. I thought it was in naira and said, ‘Shey she’s doing giveaway?’ But then I saw the dollar sign at the back. I was shocked! I converted it—$1,200 times N1,600… How many millions is that? For your own wedding? Is it my ‘I do’?”

Urging people to be more considerate, the actress advised that weddings should not be financially burdensome for guests.

“It’s not good na, everybody should relax. There is life after the wedding o!” she added.

Lili’s post has since sparked reactions online, with many agreeing that aso ebi prices have become excessive.
