The Oyo State Government has announced the immediate closure of Agodi Zoo after a lion killed an attendant identified as Hamzat Oyekunle.
Popularly known as Baba Olorunwa, Mr. Oyekunle had fed the lion for over five years and was known to have had a very good relationship with all the animals in the zoo.
The government’s decision to close the zoo is based on the report received from AM & C, the company managing it.
Lions in the zoo have been evacuated pending further investigations.
The government, in a statement signed by the Executive Secretary, Bureau of Investment Promotion (BIP), Yinka Fatoki, expressed shock at the unfortunate incident.
Mr Fatoki said representatives from the government have visited Oyekunle’s family to commiserate with them over their loss.
