Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has played down the team’s 1-0 victory over Poland on Friday.
Rohr’s men stunned their host thanks to a Victor Moses spot-kick.
While Nigerians seem to be carried away by the famous win, the Franco-German reckons his team still needs improvement.
“It was a difficult game against a good team. We were lucky to win this game because Poland had at least four big chances to score,” Rohr said after the contest.
“We scored a penalty, it was an individual action from Victor Moses to win the penalty and he scored. We had a good organisation in the first half and we were dangerous sometimes. We had some problems from set pieces; from corners, free kicks. In the air, Poland was a better team. They won most of the duels in the air.”
Rohr singled out 19-year-old goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, for praises.
The Spain-based goaltender started between the sticks for the first time for his country.
Although he did wobble at times, he kept his composure in the latter stages.
“We were lucky. Our young keeper, our very young goalkeeper started for the first time,” Rohr stated.
“I must recognize he had a very good performance and the defence very organized by our captain (William Troost-Ekong). It is important we work with this very great goalkeeper for the future.”
Next up for Rohr and his charges is another test game with Serbia on Tuesday.
