The Presidency has denied media reports that Ibrahim Magu has been sacked as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Relying on a report by The Guardian which quoted an unnamed source, many media outlets on Saturday reported that Magu was asked to vacate his seat by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
Magu was said to have been redeployed to the police following his rejection as EFCC chairman by the Senate over allegation of graft levelled against him by the Department of State Security Service (DSS).
“We are reading reports that the EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu has been sacked,” Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a Facebook post on Saturday morning.
“No report has been made available to the Presidency by the Attorney General of the Federation over the matter.
“The report of his sack is therefore speculative and preemptive.”
