Visitors to the Nigerian Corner on the final day of the Notting Hill Carnival in London got a super treat when reggae singer-songwriter, Majek Fashek, was ushered on stage for a surprise performance.
Majek, who has been in England for a while to record new songs, was presented at the carnival on Monday as part of the three-day #LoveLagosWeekend campaign.
The Majek that appeared on the last day of the 50th anniversary of the largest carnival in Europe looked remarkably different from the troubled star admitted to rehab in Abuja for substance dependency last year.
As the rains were subsiding in Lagos – sponsor of this year’s Nigerian Corner – the hitmaker sang ‘Send Down the Rain’ and other classics to the delight of revelers gathered on Adelaja Street at the Notting Hill Carnival.
It was Majek’s first public performance outside Nigeria since his release from rehab, coming a week after the release of his new track, ‘No More Sorrow’ featuring 2face Idibia – a remake of his 90s hit, ‘Holy Spirit’.
The Nigerian Corner is promoted by Ayo Shonaiya.
This year’s edition was anchored by Gbenga Adeyinka.
