A 32-year-old man, Jibrin Abu, has been arrested by the police in Niger State for allegedly beating his wife, Victoria Aliyu, to death over allegation of infidelity.
Mr Abu, a native of Dabogi village in Lapai, was arrested by police operatives attached to the Lapai Division in the Lapai local government area of the state.
Abu was said to have killed his wife with a piece of wood.
Reports by Northern City News reveal that the suspect had earlier warned his late wife to stop taking calls from her male friends, but she reportedly ignored his warning.
“I used a wood to kill her after several warnings for her to desist from taking calls from men in my house.
“I have been suspecting that my wife was sleeping around with other men in my village but in the heat of argument, I killed her,” Abu was quoted as saying.
The suspect added, “My late wife brought men into our matrimonial home and my culture abhors such an act; that was why I killed her to save the family from the shame.”
Niger police spokesperson, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, and said that the suspect had confessed to the crime.
The suspect attempted to commit suicide by drinking deadly insecticide, Sniper, he was, however, quickly taken to the Lapai General Hospital for treatment.
The police spokesperson also said that Abu would be charged to court soon.
